About the treatment

What is a neuromodulator?

Botulinum toxin type A is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles it's injected into by quieting the nerve signals that make them contract. Used precisely, it can calm overworked jaw muscles, help prevent migraine attacks, and smooth the lines that form from repeated expression.

What changes from one use to the next is the dose and where it's placed. We tailor both to your goals and health history.

How we use it

Three ways neuromodulators help

Jaw & teeth

TMJ & bruxism

Off-label use · may help

Typical dose: 30–50 units
Repeat: every 3–4 months

Overworked jaw muscles (the masseter and temporalis) can cause jaw pain, clenching, grinding and tension headaches. Relaxing these muscles may help ease pain and reduce clenching, while you can still talk and chew normally.

  • May ease jaw, face and temple pain
  • May reduce clenching and grinding that wears down teeth
  • May soften a bulky jawline caused by muscle overuse
  • Relief often begins within 1–2 weeks
Headache

Chronic migraine

Health Canada–approved use

Typical dose: 155–195 units
Repeat: every 12 weeks

For adults with chronic migraine: 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting 4 hours or more. Small injections across the forehead, temples, back of the head, neck and shoulders help block the pain signals involved in migraine.

  • Fewer headache days each month for many people
  • Milder attacks and better day-to-day function
  • May reduce reliance on daily or rescue medication
  • Benefit often builds over the first 2–3 treatment cycles
Aesthetic

Wrinkle relaxation

Approved cosmetic uses

Typical dose: 30–60 units
Repeat: every 3–4 months

Softens lines that form from repeated expression and helps keep new creases from setting in. We aim for a refreshed look that keeps natural movement.

  • Frown lines between the brows (“11s”)
  • Forehead lines and crow's feet
  • Bunny lines, lip flip and chin dimpling
  • Subtle brow lift and neck bands, in selected cases

Who may benefit?

Treatment may be a good fit if you:

✓
Wake with a sore jaw, tight face or temple headaches
✓
Clench or grind your teeth, or have been told you do
✓
Notice jaw clicking or limited opening with muscle tension
✓
Have headaches on 15 or more days a month
✓
Have tried migraine preventives without enough relief
✓
Want to soften expression lines without surgery
!
Safety, in plain language

Most people tolerate treatment well. Mild redness, tenderness or a small bruise at the injection site is common and short-lived. Some people get a brief headache, neck stiffness or, rarely, a drooping eyelid or brow that settles as the product wears off. Treatment isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with certain neuromuscular conditions. We review your health history first.

What to expect

1
Consultation

We review your symptoms or goals, health history and medications, then plan your treatment.

2
Your plan & estimate

We confirm the areas, units and cost. For migraine, our medical team helps you check coverage.

3
Treatment day

Fine-needle injections take 15–30 minutes. Most people return to normal activities right away.

4
Results & follow-up

Effects begin in 3–10 days and peak at about 2–4 weeks. Most results last 3–4 months.

Chronic migraine

Coverage & support programs

Botox® for chronic migraine can be covered. Our medical team, through Nurse Tia, helps with the paperwork. TMJ and cosmetic treatment usually aren't covered, though some extended health plans may reimburse TMJ care with a diagnosis and receipts.

Private drug plans

Many workplace and private plans cover Botox® for chronic migraine, often after a prior-approval form. We provide the documentation your insurer asks for.

Ontario Drug Benefit

If you're eligible for ODB, Trillium or OHIP+, Ontario's Exceptional Access Program may fund Botox® for chronic migraine when you have 15+ headache days a month, have tried three or more oral preventives, and are assessed by a physician with headache training.

Manufacturer support

AbbVie Care helps people prescribed Botox® with insurance paperwork and coverage applications. Your prescriber enrolls you. Phone 1-833-570-0818.

Coverage depends on your plan and eligibility and isn't guaranteed. Clinic treatment fees are billed separately from medication.

Skip the gut. Go straight to the bloodstream.

Unlike oral supplements, IV therapy delivers vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and hydration directly into your bloodstream, bypassing digestion for immediate availability.

Each treatment begins with a personalized health review to ensure the infusion meets your needs. Then, relax in a comfortable, private setting while our nurse administers your IV therapy, typically over 45–60 minutes.

Running low on energy? Recharge with B vitamins, minerals and hydration.
Training hard or travelling often? Rehydrate and recover between efforts.
Interested in immune support? Get ahead of the fall and winter season.
Working on weight or metabolic health? Power up your plan with targeted nutrients. See our Health Assessment.

Safety, in plain language

Most people tolerate nutrient iVs well. Mild, short-lived effects such as tenderness or bruising at the needle site, a cool sensation in the arm or light-headedness can happen. iV therapy isn't right for everyone: pregnancy, breastfeeding, some kidney or heart conditions and certain medications need a different approach, so we review your history first.

G6PD screening is required before High Dose Vitamin C (HDVC). It's a simple blood test, at no extra fee, that confirms high-dose vitamin C is safe for you, and we also check kidney function. Our other drips, including the Myers' Cocktail and Immune Support, don't need the test.

Part of a plan, not a shortcut

Drips deliver the most when paired with sleep, nutrition and movement, and they work alongside, not instead of, your regular medical care. Feeling acutely unwell or running a fever? See your doctor first.

1.5–3 Hours Private Chair Zero Downtime
What Is NAD+

The molecule your cells run on.

A coenzyme found in every living cell, NAD+ is the charge in your cellular batteries. Levels tend to fall as we age, which is why it sits at the centre of longevity science.

Fuel

Powers the mitochondria

Drives the reactions that make ATP, the energy every cell spends.

Repair

Feeds DNA repair

The enzymes that maintain your DNA burn NAD+ as they work.

Signal

Switches on sirtuins

The “longevity proteins” that tune metabolism and stress response.

Glutathione at MedCAiRE, in under a minute.

See what a glutathione session looks like in our clinic, from the private chair to the nurse who sets up your iV.

What Is Glutathione

The antioxidant your body makes itself.

Glutathione is a small molecule built from three amino acids (glutamine, cysteine and glycine) and found in nearly every cell. It's often called the master antioxidant because it neutralizes free radicals directly and helps recharge other antioxidants. Your liver makes the most of it, and stress, illness and age can draw stores down.

Neutralize

Quenches free radicals

Glutathione donates electrons to unstable molecules, helping protect cell membranes, proteins and DNA from oxidative damage.

Recycle

Recharges other antioxidants

It helps regenerate vitamins C and E after they've done their job, keeping your wider antioxidant network running.

Process

Supports liver detox pathways

In the liver, glutathione binds to toxins and waste products so the body can clear them, one of its best-understood roles.

Why iV

Skip the gut. Go straight to the source.

Much of the glutathione you swallow is broken down during digestion before it reaches your cells. Daily oral supplements can raise levels slowly, over months. An iV delivers glutathione directly into the bloodstream in a single nurse-monitored session.

Oral Supplements
  • Partly broken down by digestion
  • Levels build slowly, over months
  • Taken daily at home, unsupervised
iV Glutathione
  • Delivered directly to the bloodstream
  • Bypasses the digestive system
  • Ordered and monitored by our clinical team
Potential Benefits

Defend, recover, restore.

What people come in for. Responses vary from person to person, and your consultation sets realistic goals for you.

Antioxidant Defence

May help restore glutathione stores when oxidative stress is running high. 1

Liver Support

Supports the liver's natural clearance pathways. Early research in fatty liver is promising. 2

Recovery & Performance

Hard training creates oxidative stress. A tool for athletes looking to bounce back between efforts.

Healthy Aging

Oxidative stress is one of the drivers of cellular aging. Part of a longevity plan with sleep, strength and bloodwork.

Immune Support

Immune cells rely on glutathione to work properly. Pairs well with our Immune Support iV.

Skin Health

Antioxidant support for skin exposed to sun, pollution and stress. Not a skin-lightening treatment.

Brain & Nerve Health

The brain is especially sensitive to oxidative stress. Research here is early and still evolving. 3

Bounce Back

Popular after travel, long work stretches or periods of overindulgence.

Numbered findings link to studies in What the research shows. Most human trials so far used oral glutathione; trials of the iV form are still small.

Is Glutathione Right for You?

For people who ask a lot of their bodies.

Training hard? Add antioxidant support to your recovery toolkit.
Running on stress, travel or late nights? Help your body catch up.
Already on NAD+ or a core drip? Glutathione is a natural add-on.
Investing in healthy aging? Pair it with a Comprehensive Health Assessment and bloodwork.
!

Safety, in plain language

Most people tolerate glutathione well. Tenderness or bruising at the needle site, a brief odd taste, mild stomach upset or light-headedness can happen and usually pass quickly.

It isn't right for everyone. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, asthma, active cancer treatment, some kidney or liver conditions and certain medications need a different approach. We review your history at your consultation, and every treatment is ordered only after that review.

We don't offer glutathione for skin lightening.

+

Part of a plan, not a shortcut

Glutathione delivers the most alongside sleep, nutrition and movement, and it works with your regular medical care, not instead of it. Managing a liver or neurological condition? Keep your doctor in the loop.

What the research shows.

Glutathione's role as an antioxidant is well established. Human trials of glutathione as a therapy are smaller and more mixed, and most used the oral form. Here's an honest snapshot.

1Randomized Trial

Raising body stores

In healthy adults, six months of daily oral glutathione raised glutathione levels in blood and other tissues compared with placebo.

Richie et al., European Journal of Nutrition, 2015

2Pilot Study

Fatty liver

In an open-label pilot in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, four months of oral glutathione alongside lifestyle changes lowered liver enzyme (ALT) levels. Larger trials are needed.

Honda et al., BMC Gastroenterology, 2017

Read the study →
3Double-Blind Pilot

iV glutathione in Parkinson's

A small placebo-controlled trial of iV glutathione found it well tolerated, but symptom changes were not significantly different from placebo. It's one reason we don't present glutathione as a treatment for disease.

Hauser et al., Movement Disorders, 2009

Scientific Review

How glutathione protects cells

A widely cited review explains glutathione's roles in neutralizing oxidants, recycling other antioxidants and helping the body process toxins, and how it is made in the body.

Your Visit

1
Free 15-Min Consult

By phone or virtual. Goals, health history, medications and any recent bloodwork.

2

Which shot, how often and the price, confirmed up front. Vitamin D3 needs a recent blood test.

3
Injection Day

A registered nurse gives your shot in a private room. It takes minutes, with no downtime.

4
Your Rhythm

Weekly, monthly or seasonal. Your nurse sets the timing and adjusts as you go.

Safety, in Plain Language

Quick, simple and well tolerated.

Most people tolerate vitamin injections well. Brief soreness, redness or a small bruise where the needle went in is common and settles quickly.

Shots aren't right for everyone. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, bleeding disorders or blood thinners, some kidney or liver conditions and certain medications need a different approach, so we review your history at your consult first. Vitamin D3 is dosed only after a recent blood test.

Part of a Plan

A boost, not a shortcut.

Injections deliver the most alongside sleep, nutrition and movement, and they work with your regular medical care, not instead of it.

Want to know what your levels actually are? Pair your shots with a Comprehensive Health Assessment and bloodwork.

What Is Osteopathy

Your body works as one system. So do we.

Osteopathy is a hands-on, drug-free approach to pain and movement. Your osteopath looks at how your joints, muscles, fascia and nerves work together, then treats the area that hurts and the areas that may be loading it, like a stiff hip behind a sore knee.

At MedCAiRE we pair that hands-on work with functional exercise, so the relief you feel on the table carries into training, work and daily life.

The MedCAiRE Approach

Release. Restore. Rebuild.

Five stages, one plan. Most people move through them over a few visits; athletes and post-injury patients may spend longer in the later stages.

Stage 1 of 5

Assess

We look past the sore spot: posture, joint motion, muscle balance and how you move under load. You leave understanding what we found and why.

How We Treat

Three ways we get you moving.

Your plan blends what you need. Most visits combine hands-on work with movement; regenerative or medical care is added only when your assessment points to it.

Osteopathic manual therapy technique

Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Precise, hands-on techniques chosen for your body and your goals that day.

Soft Tissue Work

Muscles, connective tissue and fascia, to ease tension and support circulation.

Joint Mobilization

Gentle articular techniques to restore range of motion and ease irritated tissue.

Cranial Osteopathy

A subtle approach to the head, spine and sacrum, often used for tension and headaches.

Visceral Manipulation

Gentle work around the abdomen, where tension may be feeding into back or hip pain.

Added where they help: trigger point therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage and sports massage.

    What is PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative injection made from your own blood. We draw a small sample and spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which are rich in growth factors. The PRP is then injected into the injured tendon, ligament or joint to support your body's natural healing and help reduce pain.

Because it comes from your own blood, PRP is a natural, non-surgical option for persistent soft-tissue injuries and early joint wear.

Best suited to chronic or partial injuries, not complete tears.

    Conditions commonly treated with PRP

When an injury hasn't settled with rest, physiotherapy or other care, including:
    ✓
    Chronic tendonitis and tendinopathy
    ✓
    High-grade partial tendon tears
    ✓
Tennis elbow and rotator cuff pain
    ✓
    Patellar and Achilles tendonitis
    ✓
Mild to moderate osteoarthritis (e.g. knee, ankle)
    ✓
    Ligament sprains slow to heal

    Potential benefits

    Healing
    Supports natural repair
    • Growth factors from your own platelets
    • May reduce pain and improve function
    • Non-surgical, using your own blood
    • Pairs well with a guided rehab plan
    Precision
    Ultrasound guidance matters
    • Confirms the exact tissue and extent of injury
    • Guides the needle in real time
    • Accurate, safer delivery
    • An ultrasound assessment is required before PRP

    What to expect

    1
    Assessment & ultrasound
A clinical exam and diagnostic ultrasound confirm the injury and whether PRP is right for you.
    2
    Blood draw & preparation
Your blood is processed on-site in about 10–15 minutes to concentrate the platelets.
    3
    Ultrasound-guided injection
PRP is delivered precisely into the injured tendon, ligament or joint, the same day.
    4
    Recovery & rehab
Personalized aftercare and a rehab plan; osteopathy, physio or athletic therapy is often recommended.

    What is SportVis™?

SportVis™ is a hyaluronic acid injection treatment for painful, slow-to-heal tendon and ligament injuries, most commonly chronic tennis elbow and mild to moderate ankle sprains. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body already makes; it helps cushion, lubricate and hydrate soft tissue.

SportVis™ uses STABHA™, the only Health Canada-approved hyaluronic acid formulated specifically for soft-tissue injuries. It is given as small injections around the injured area and works alongside your body's own healing response.

Given at MedCAiRE by Tia Weigert, RN and Dinisha Patel, NP, trained in this injection technique.

    What is MonoVisc®?

MonoVisc® is a viscosupplement: a clear gel of hyaluronic acid injected directly into an arthritic joint. Hyaluronic acid is what gives healthy joint fluid its slippery, cushioning quality. In osteoarthritis there is often less of it, and what remains is thinner.

MonoVisc® supplements that fluid with ultra-pure, cross-linked hyaluronic acid made to stay in the joint longer, so a single injection can ease pain for months.

Given at MedCAiRE by Tia Weigert, RN and Dinisha Patel, NP, trained in this injection technique.
    MonoVisc® at a glance
    Active ingredient
    Cross-linked sodium hyaluronate
    Dose
88 mg in 4 mL, one injection
    Used for
Osteoarthritis pain: knee, hip, shoulder, ankle
    Relief
Up to 6 months in clinical studies
    Guidance
Real-time ultrasound, after X-ray or MRI

    Who MonoVisc® is for

When osteoarthritis pain is holding you back and exercise, physio or weight management haven't been enough, including:
    ✓
Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder or ankle confirmed on X-ray or MRI
    ✓
Don't get enough relief from acetaminophen or other anti-inflammatories
    ✓
Preferring one injection to a three-visit series
    ✓
    Looking for a non-surgical, steroid-free option

    How it works

    Osteoarthritis
    What changes in the joint
    • Cartilage wears away and bone surfaces may rub
    • Joint (synovial) fluid becomes thinner and less elastic
    • Exposed bone causes pain and reduced mobility
    • Bone spurs form as cushioning is lost
    Viscosupplementation
    Restoring the lubricant
    • Hyaluronic acid injected into the joint space
    • Improves lubrication and shock absorption
    • Thought to work much like oil in an engine
    • Cross-linked to stay in the joint longer

    Potential benefits

    Relief
    Less pain, for longer
    • May reduce joint pain for up to six months
    • Knee relief can begin as early as two weeks
    • A single, ultrasound-guided injection
    • No steroid
    Movement
    Back to what you love
    • May make walking, stairs and exercise easier
    • Knee, hip, shoulder and ankle
    • Pairs well with osteopathy or athletic therapy rehab
    • Non-surgical, short visit

“Absolutely recommend Tia and PRP injections. I had persistent tennis elbow and arm pain for years. I tried so many therapies, including physio, acupuncture, massage, etc. Pain never totally improved. Finally Filipe suggested I try PRP and I was skeptical but was ready to try anything.Immediately felt better and after a few weeks I have minimal pain in that area. Already planning another PRP procedure.”

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is the MonoVisc® injection painful?

Most people feel a pinch and some pressure in the joint. Mild swelling or discomfort afterward is possible and usually settles within a few days.

How many MonoVisc® injections will I need?

One. MonoVisc® is a single-injection treatment, given under real-time ultrasound guidance.

How soon will I feel relief after MonoVisc®?

In the knee, relief can start as early as two weeks after the injection. In the hip, shoulder and ankle, people in studies began to feel relief about one month after the injection.

How long does relief from MonoVisc® last?

Relief has been shown to last up to six months in the knee, hip, shoulder and ankle. Results vary from person to person.

Are there side effects with MonoVisc®?

Studies reported few side effects. Those linked to MonoVisc® were mild to moderate joint swelling, discomfort and rash, which usually settle on their own. We review your health history before treatment.

    Which joints can MonoVisc® treat?

MonoVisc® is indicated in Canada for osteoarthritis pain of the knee, hip, shoulder and ankle, for people who haven't responded well to exercise, physio and simple pain relievers such as acetaminophen. Your assessment and imaging confirm whether it suits your joint.

Do I need a referral or imaging for MonoVisc®?

No referral is needed, but an X-ray or MRI confirming osteoarthritis is required before treatment. Our Nurse Practitioner can provide a requisition.

How is MonoVisc® different from nSTRIDE® APS or SportVis™?

MonoVisc® adds hyaluronic acid to an arthritic joint. nSTRIDE® APS uses a solution made from your own blood for knee osteoarthritis. SportVis™ is hyaluronic acid designed for tendon and ligament injuries such as tennis elbow and ankle sprains.

    Is MonoVisc® covered by insurance?

MonoVisc® is not covered by OHIP. Many extended health drug plans cover viscosupplements. The manufacturer's free coverage helpline (1-855-491-5754) can check your plan with you, and their coverage guide explains how to submit a claim.
