About the service

Iron deficiency affects millions of individuals. At MedCAiRE Health, we offer advanced intravenous (iV) iron therapy to help restore optimal iron levels and alleviate the symptoms of iron-deficiency and anemia  - We use Health Canada approved, clinically proven formulations, Venofer® (iron sucrose) and Monofer® (iron derisomaltose) to safely and effectively treat iron deficiency and iron-deficiency related anemia, especially when oral supplements fail or are not tolerated.

We specialize in functional and regenerative care, including pregnancy and postpartum-safe iV iron infusions, to help you feel your best in every stage of life.

Who Needs iV Iron Therapy?

  • Chronic fatigue, burnout, or brain fog
  • Low energy during pregnancy or postpartum recovery
  • Dizziness or frequent headaches
  • Cold hands and feet, pale skin, or brittle nails
  • Inadequate response or side effects from oral iron supplements
  • Conditions like IBS, IBD, celiac disease, or gastric bypass
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding, surgery, injury, or blood loss
  • High physical demands (athletes, shift workers, students, etc.)

iV Iron Therapy for Pregnancy & Postpartum

Iron needs increase dramatically during pregnancy. Many individuals cannot meet those needs through diet and supplements alone—especially in the third trimester. When oral supplements are poorly tolerated or ineffective, iV iron may be a safer and more efficient alternative to protect both maternal and fetal health.

At MedCAiRE, we offer safe, OB-approved iV iron options for pregnant and postpartum individuals experiencing iron deficiency or anemia—under the direct supervision of our medical team and with careful review of current blood work. Each case is carefully evaluated to ensure treatment is appropriate, evidence-based, and aligned with prenatal care plans.

  • Low ferritin or hemoglobin despite taking oral iron
  • Experience GI side effects (nausea, constipation, bloating) from iron pills
  • Are preparing for delivery of twins, C-section and need to build reserves
  • Are breastfeeding and feel exhausted, foggy, or energy depleted
  • Experienced blood loss during birth and need rapid iron replenishment

Safety First: Pregnancy Protocols 🛡

  • We only use Health Canada–approved products: Venofer®
  • We require recent bloodwork and health history screening
  • iV iron is administered under nursing supervision in a clean, quiet infusion room
  • We collaborate with your OB, midwife, or primary provider when needed
  • Infusions are typically done after first trimester, unless medically indicated sooner
  • Dosage and frequency are customized based on blood lab values and symptoms
  • Most infusions are well tolerated, with minimal to no side effects

Your Treatment Options:

✅ Venofer® (Iron Sucrose)

  • Smaller, gentler doses spaced over 2–3 visits
  • Often used in pregnancy and for those with complex health needs

Your MedCAiRE provider will recommend the best option based on your current iron status, medical history, and pregnancy stage.

Monofer® (Iron Derisomaltose)

Monofer® is a high-dose iV iron infusion designed to restore iron levels quickly and efficiently. In many cases, a full replacement dose can be given in a single visit, making it a convenient alternative to Venofer® for patients who need faster iron repletion or prefer fewer appointments.

Its advanced formulation allows for larger doses to be administered safely over a shorter treatment course, which can be especially helpful for individuals with significant iron deficiency, ongoing symptoms, or difficulty tolerating oral iron supplements.

Benefits of Monofer®

  • May allow full iron replacement in just one infusion
  • Fewer visits compared with lower-dose iV iron options
  • Helps replenish iron stores more rapidly
  • Can improve symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, and reduced exercise tolerance
  • Useful for patients who do not tolerate or respond well to oral iron

Best for:

  • Moderate to severe iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia
  • Patients needing faster correction and not responded well to oral iron
  • Individuals with significant symptoms related to iron deficiency
  • Those looking for a more convenient alternative to multiple Venofer® infusions

What to Expect — Step-by-Step

Before initiating treatment, we perform a detailed blood panel assessment of your iron status and help guide your personalized therapy plan. Key markers include:

Ferritin, Hemoglobin, Transferrin Saturation, Total Iron Binding Capacity

These labs help determine the optimal dose, formulation, and frequency of iV iron while ensuring your treatment is safe and effective. We also monitor your levels post-treatment to confirm iron stores are replenished without risk of overload.
